The Couture Chairs Team

Nestled in between fields of horses and farmland in the picturesque Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire you will find the Couture Chairs workshop.  This is where our ideas and designs become a reality, it’s in our rustic location where the magic truly happens.

As we are are a third generation upholsters our workshop is set up in a traditional style upholstery shop.  Everyday our dedicated craftsman use traditional and modern techniques to produce high end quality products. Each chair is created with care and attention to detail.

Every chair starts its life as a wooden frame. There is a real raw beauty in a chair frame as its simplicity shows the curve, carving and naked shape of the piece.

Each piece is then transformed using a variety of techniques, including webbing, paint finishes, polishing, upholstering, hand sewing and hand cutting. Chairs are then hand finished adding flowers, or any other decorative touch that is required.

Our team is headed up by Mark our Director who has been making furniture and working as a traditional upholsterer for 30 years. He is the driving force in the workshop. He is incredibly skilled and oversees the team making sure the quality and attention to detail is absolutely perfect.

“ I love what I do….its who I am. I think this reflects in my work and everything I make”

Matt is a young lad who was trained by Mark’s father before he retired. He brings skills such as polishing and a vast knowledge of paint, lacquers, applications and different finishes. His skill level is second to none and he is a vital part of the process.

Luke is the young blood of the team and is Mark’s son. Being a fourth generation upholsterer he has a natural affinity with fabric and furniture and a real flair for upholstery.  It’s safe to say we are are real family here at Couture Chairs!
